Community Band 2024
Triton College’s Music Department is excited to present their Community Concert Band for the 2024-2025 school year. Community members and high school students with windwood, brass or percussion experience are welcome to join the ensemble. Participation is free. Those under 18 are required to have a permission slip from a parent or guardian.
The band will meet Mondays, 6-7:45 p.m., beginning Monday, Sept. 16, in the J Building (Room J-205). Registration in advance is required to schedule an audition. Participants must have a minimum of high school band experience or a recent equivalent. Salvatore Siriano, Triton’s lead music instructor and band director, said musicians with high school or college band experience are welcome to join.
“This is a great opportunity for non-music majors, who participated in band or choir in high school, to sing or play with an ensemble,” Siriano said. “This year, we are also opening up our community band to high school students who may not have a band at their school or who have conflicts with their local high school band’s schedule.” This is also a great opportunity for homeschooled students to participate.
Siriano added that creating music teaches students how to work together to accomplish a common goal, which is a successful performance.
Students who participate in the Community Concert Band can also develop an appreciation of music as an art form and broaden their understanding through the study and performance of different styles of music.
“Participating in an ensemble is a wonderful way to make friends and build relationships with people who have a common interest,” said Siriano. “Those interested have the opportunity to participate in rewarding concerts and perform music from a variety of styles and cultures.”
The band will conclude the fall semester with a performance on Friday, Dec. 6, 7 p.m., in Triton’s Performing Arts Center (R Building). The band will also perform at Triton College’s Commencement Ceremony in May.
