CNA Instructor Course for RNs
NRS E19 – Instructor Course for RN’s Including Evaluator’s Workshop
This course is designed for the RN who is interested in becoming an instructor for a basic nurse aide training program (BNATP). The course meets the requirements outlined in the Illinois Department of Public Health’s Long Term Care Assistants and Aides Training Program Code. This course includes the Evaluators Workshop component which will evaluate the student’s competency demonstration of selected performance skills.
This course is approved by the Ohio League for Nursing. Successful completion of the course will provide 34.25 CEUs.
Educational Requirements:
**IMPORTANT – INSTRUCTOR REQUIREMENTS: Effective July 14, 2016, participants must meet the qualifications outlined in the June 2013 Illinois Administrative Code Title 77, Section 395.160 Instructor Requirements AND found in Code of Federal Regulations, Title 42 Section 483.152 (a)(5)(i & ii).
Two years as a licensed RN and at least one year experience working at a long term care facility or on a skilled unit of a hospital. By definition a skilled unit of a hospital is a geriatric designated unit covered by Medicare.

Clarification, as stated by IDPH Education & Training Unit: the one year of RN experience is defined as providing direct care in a nursing home or a certified skilled unit of a hospital, or, teaching theory in an accredited nursing program.
