Daisy Corral
Daisy Corral of Franklin Park, a Triton music student, was presented with a gift Dec. 11 on behalf of Triton College President Mary-Rita Moore’s Reserve Fund with the Triton College Foundation. Corral was awarded a gift in appreciation for her recorded rendition of the national anthem, now played at every Triton home athletic game.
President Moore, Triton College Foundation President Tom Olson, lead music instructor Salvatore Siriano, and Associate Vice President of Athletics Garrick Abezetian, presented Corral with the check.
“I was so overwhelmed with gratitude when I found out that I was selected, that I started crying,” said Corral. “This makes me very hopeful that I can pursue my dreams and become a singer and vocalist in the future.”
Siriano said Corral was the “first choice” when it came to selecting a music student.
“Daisy was extremely prepared, professional and worked well under pressure when she recorded the national anthem,” said Siriano. “She spent a lot of time practicing the song and rose to the challenge.”
Corral’s love of music began as a student at Hester Middle School and East Leyden High School, where she joined the choir and became involved in musical theater.
After high school, Corral chose to attend Triton College, which she said was the “smart” choice for both her and her family. Once on campus, she dove into music classes and voice lessons with Nathalie Colas. Her positive experiences with talented instructors and engaging classes helped her realize that she wanted to pursue a career in performing and singing.
“When I was in high school, I felt shy singing in front of people,” she said. But after “taking voice lessons at Triton, I feel more comfortable singing in front of people. I like learning new aspects of music and how to work with my own voice.”
After Triton, Corral hopes to study musical performance at a four-year university. Her goal is to be in a musical, with her eyes on Broadway. In the meantime, she’s incredibly “grateful” for the opportunities Triton College has provided.
“I’m very hopeful that I can pursue music in the future and receive even more opportunities,” said Corral.
