Andrea Avalos

Andrea AvalosAndrea Avalos from Bellwood credits the resources and support at Triton College for guiding her toward earning her degree and pursuing her dream career in robotic welding. Set to graduate with an associate degree in 2026, she is thrilled to embark on her professional journey.

“I’ve definitely learned so much at Triton,” said Avalos. “The welding classes that I have taken have given me a better understanding of the engineering world and all that it entails.” Avalos’ interest in robotic welding began when she was a high school student volunteering at a technology camp for elementary students led by Antigone Sharris, chairperson of Triton’s Engineering Technology Program.

“Antigone and I got to know each other very well,” said Avalos. “She introduces all of her students to great opportunities.”

Avalos believes the opportunities she has encountered at Triton, such as the job fairs and workshops, have better prepared her for finding a job after graduation.

“Triton College will help you with anything that you need, from financial aid, job opportunities and resume support,” she said. “I truly feel like I’m on my way to finding the best career possible.”

“Andrea came to one of our events as a high school student,” said Sharris. “After starting her welding classes at Triton, she became our lab aide and then received an apprenticeship from one of our job fairs. Her motivation to succeed combined with her experience at Triton will bring her success when she graduates.”

Triton College’s Engineering Technology Program offers two degree tracks, Mechanical Designs and Mechatronics (Robotics). Students can also pursue four stackable certificate programs that contribute to these degrees. Both tracks include courses that develop skills in fundamental and advanced drafting and design, utilizing various 2D and 3D CAD systems, and incorporating lean principle. Triton’s state-of-the-art facilities, programs and certificates set students up for success.
